Revolution want in

I guess it was in the cards for me to continue my soccer themed blog posts today. This news was just discovered on boston.com.

It seems the New England Revolution are kicking around the idea to build a new stadium. They currently play at Gillette Stadium, home to the Patriots. (If you remember, the Patriots are the team my beloved Broncos sent home packing from last year's playoffs. :)

Sounds very early in the process, currently the team is looking for possible sites for the stadium. Downtown Boston being one, along with a couple of unnamed suburbs.

I'd love to see a stadium built in Downtown Boston. Soccer stadiums tend to be small venues, holding between 20,000 and 30,000 people. Perfect to watch a soccer game and also great for doubling as concert venues. Not to mention driving to Gillette always seems to be a major headache for me.

Rapids Build New Stadium

B
uilding from my own personal mini excitment generated by the now complete World Cup Matchs, I decided to venture off into the realm of MLS back here in the States. I was excited when I came across this website, since the barrelman always enjoys a new stadium.

It looks like the Colorado Rapids are currently under construction for a brand new stadium, in Commerce City. This construction photo is from July. I think with a beer in one hand, and a hot dog in the other, I could be quite happy watching some soccer in this stadium.

It appears the Rapids will be sharing this stadium with the Lacrosse team, the Colorado Mammoth. The stadium is scheduled to open April 2007.

Countdown to first preseason game!

New Design for Freedom Tower

Lead architect, David M. Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill unveiled a new design for the Freedom Tower today.

Some notes on the plans -

Picture to the right shows the 187-foot-high, bomb-resistant concrete base in a screen of glass prisms.

Its rooftop parapet would be 1,368 feet above the street, as was that of 1 World Trade Center, the north tower.

It is an obelisk on which the corners are both tapered and chamfered, or cut away diagonally.

The tip of its spire would still mark the symbolic pinnacle of 1,776 feet.

It would be illuminated at night in an echo of the Statue of Liberty's torch.

If all goes according to plan the Freedom Tower completion is expected in 2011

Even Daniel Libeskind, the official master planner of the trade center site, who tangled with Mr. Childs in 2003 over the first design of the Freedom Tower, said the latest refinements by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill were a tremendous improvement.

"They have brought luminosity and a prismatic quality to the base," he said, "and made the tower more crystalline."

Architect's Loft

Granted, it needs some TLC. But look at the possibilities behind owning almost 80,000 SF of Loft Space? How does having an indoor football field off your kitchen sound? Not enough for you? What about an full size NBA basketball court? And still have enough room for a 21,000 SF loft!

Game on

Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer said he isn't about to worry over a quarterback controversy, not when he has an offense to lead, a game to play and a Super Bowl championship to pursue. -- Denver Post

That's my boy, Jake. Saddle 'em up, and let's get to work next year.

Miami anyone next year?

Wall of Fans

Many people after seeing my blog title and name may be surprised to see my first official post being about the AZ Cardinals, and not my beloved Denver Broncos. However, those who know me, know I've been fascinated with the Eisenman designed Cardinal stadium since it's first renderings came out.

Well, my excitement level rose again today, with the idea that as a fan, I could become part of that unique stadium. The Cardinals are offering season tickets holders this chance with their new installation....Wall of Fans.

"The Cardinals Wall of Fans will be a mosaic made up of thousands of individual season ticket holder photos".
